Wine, Rose, Roger, and Santa

News from the Historic Hyde Park Neighborhood Association
By Rosemary Henderson

The recent Wine and Cheese get-together was well attended. It was a beautiful evening to be outside on the patio at Bailey’s. We had a number of new members – one couple had just moved to Tampa the previous week!

We would like to welcome Paul Lucyshyn and Del Acosta to the Board of Directors! The Historic Hyde Park Neighborhood Association elected a new slate of members for the board at the Annual Meeting on November 9, and these two are brand new to the board! We thank them both for their interest in our – and their – neighborhood.

Also, the HHPNA presented a plaque to departing board member Roger Grunke. Roger’s dedication to our little corner of Tampa has been commendable and his efforts have not gone un-noticed. He brings with him a strident belief in the preservation of our community. He also possesses a mental vault of knowledge regarding both historic architecture and the governmental processes that concern our neighborhood. We are all grateful to Roger for his leadership.

Roger spent years of service on the board and served as Board Chairman for two of them.

County Commissioner Rose Ferlita was our guest speaker at the November meeting, and she gave us updates us on a number of different issues, and followed that with a very insightful and helpful question and answer time.

The Historic Hyde Park Neighborhood Association Holiday Party will be held on Saturday December 6, from 4 to 8pm. It is not too late to make reservations by calling 254-8639. This potluck party will feature a surprise visit from Santa Claus. Kathy Durdin has again offered her large side yard – tent and all.

The Home Tour Committee has many new, exciting ideas for the March 7 event, including a Patron’s Party on Friday night March 6. Added features include antique cars, food samplings from select area restaurants and caterers, and a special emphasis on architectural and design interests.

For more information on the Home Tour, contact co-chairs Mary Heise (253-3622 mary.heise AT verizon.net) and Luzette Lightfoot (254-6348 lulight AT tampabay.rr.com). They can also tell you about opportunities to advertise in the Home Tour Brochure, as well as on our web site and in our newsletter, The Forum.

We look forward to seeing you at some of our future events.
