Hyde Park Village Live Music Series to benefit TGH Foundation

Twenty years ago, the Hyde Park Village Live Music Series launched and has been a popular gathering ever since. These free concerts, held near the beautiful fountain of Hyde Park Village in South Tampa are held the last Wednesday of the month from March through October. Each month, the concert’s refreshment sales benefit a different Bay area charity.

The September series will benefit the Tampa General Hospital’s Healing Garden to be held Wednesday. September 26, from 6pm – 9pm. Music will be performed by The Nate Najar Trio, including classical guitar; creating swinging jazz sounds, blues and Brazilian styles. Admission is free, $3 beers will be available. Hyde Park Village is located at 742 S. Village Circle in Tampa. For directions, go to www.hydeparkvillage.net

The proceeds will be earmarked for the Healing Garden, which will be located on the 4th floor of the new Bayshore Pavilion – currently under construction at TGH. The rooftop courtyard on this floor will be turned into a garden, providing outdoor space for patients and families in the Women’s Center, as well as beautiful views for patient rooms located on the interior.

The Tampa General Hospital Foundation is a private, not-for-profit corporation and a qualified charitable organization under section 501 ( c ) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation’s sole focus is to support the programs and services of Tampa General Hospital. Robin DeLaVergne serves as the Foundation’s Executive Director. Phil Dingle is the Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

Peter O. Knight airport public meeting this week

Monday, May 14th, 2007
May 15, 2007
6:30 pmto8:30 pm

The Peter O. Knight Airport routinely schedules pubic meetings with the Davis Islands community and airport patrons to discuss planned updates of facilities so everyone is aware of upcoming events and activities. One of these meetings will be held tomorrow evening, Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at 6:30. Two upcoming projects will be explained and discussed. From Susan Hardman, Hillsborough County Aviation Authority Manager of General Aviation:

1) Runway 03/21 Safety Area Compliance Project: Runway 03/21 runs parallel to South Davis Boulevard. This project maintains the existing runway length by shifting the runway landing surface 175′ to the southwest. This allows us to create the required runway end safely areas without impacting Seddon Channel. Additionally, aircraft pre-flight engine run-up areas will be added to expedite the take-off process. Both of these measures add elements of safety, economy and efficiency to our airport operations.

2) Hangar Development Area: This area proposed for aircraft hangar development is located east of the north/south runway and Seddon Channel. We are starting an infrastructure construction project to develop new hangars. This development will add to the economic development of both the community and the airport.

May 2007 TPF public meeting

We also want to take the opportunity to announce that Tampa has received notice that the Aircraft Owner’s and Pilots Association (AOPA) Expo will be returning to Tampa in 2009. You may remember the event in 2005. Peter O. Knight Airport will be once again hosting the aircraft display and Tampa Conference Center will be hosting the Expo. Once again, this event has a positive economic impact for the Tampa Bay area.

A written agenda and PowerPoint presentation will be made available on our website closer to the event.

As soon as we find out about the additional information, we’ll let you know here on Davis Islands Today.
